Follow the leader…

A chance picture, taken very quickly. I like the balance of it from the parent’s feet in the front to the dog’s tongue out with the girl’s yellow t-shirt in between, anchored by their shadows. The dog of course, was wha attracted me to this particular subject. //

Photo à la sauvette, prise par chance. J'aime l'équilibre des pieds du parent à l'avant à la langue du chien avec le t-shirt jaune de la fille entre les deux, ancré par leurs ombres. Le chien, bien sûr, était l’attraction numéro un ici.

The WorkFlow

What attracted me to this was the geometry of the architecture and contrast of light and shadow. It already had a point of reference with the gentleman in the stairs, all it needed was some tightening up, straightening, slightly opening the shadows without disturbing the geometry of the shadow. First in Lightroom Classic and after in SilverEfex 7 for black and white conversion. //

Ce qui m”attirait ici était la géometrie de l’architecture et du contraste lumière et ombre. Le monsieur dans les escaliers me donne mon point de référence, tout ce que j’avais besoin c’était mettre au net, recadrer et redresser la photo, ouvrir légèrement l’ombre sans toucher à la geometrie des ombres. D’abord avec Lightroom et ensuite avec SilverEfex 7 pour la conversion en noir et blanc.

With a Leica rangefinder, manual focusing is the biggest challenge for the modern photographer used to autofocus system. But it’s actually a very simple secret: zone focusing, the method by which one chooses its aperture, usually f8 or f11, then decides on an appropriate distance which is really two distances close and far. If you don’t know about it, google it, many YouTube videos will show you how it’s done. Just know that this technique will make you faster than any autofocus camera once you master it. //

Avec une caméra Leica de style ´rangerfinder’ , la mise au point manuelle est sous le plus grand défi pour le photographe moderne habitué au système autofocus. Mais il y a un secret très simple: le focus de zone. Cette méthode exige que le photographe choisi une ouverture de f8 ou f11 et ensuite décide de la distance de la mise au point appropriée de près et de loin. Je l’explique très mal et si ça vous intéresse je vous invite à faire vos recherches sur Google pour en apprendre plus sur cette technique. Bien maitrisé, elle peut vous rendre plus rapide que l’autofocus de votre caméra.

In general when I shoot inside under artificial light or mixed lighting conditions I’d rather to turn to black and white than deal with the headache that comes with it. Also, in digital, if in color at 4000iso one might call it Noise, in b&w it becomes grains. Leica m10, 35mm summicron. //

En general que je photographie à l’intérieur sous lumières artificielles ou des conditions de lumières mélangées, je préfère me tourner vers le noir et blanc plutôt que m’affairer à ces problèmes. Aussi si avec le digital en couleur, photographié à 4000iso, on appelle ca du bruit, en n&b, c’est du grain. Leica m10, 35mm summicron.
